Attorney Cara R. Mitchell Addresses Impact of New Act on Small Businesses
Partner Cara Mitchell recently addressed the impact on small employers of the new Georgia Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011 (HB87) in a presentation to the Construction Suppliers Association. Some provisions of the Act have been blocked for the time being by the federal District Court for the Northern District of Georgia (Judge Thrash’s Order; appeal filed with the Eleventh Circuit by Attorney General Sam Olens). However, most sections took effect July 1, 2011. Ms. Mitchell’s August 17 presentation focused on the use of eVerify and employers’ current I-9 practices.
