Celebrating 120 Years of Outstanding Legal Service

Whelchel, Dunlap, Jarrard & Walker, LLP, proudly announces that in 2008, it will celebrate the 120th anniversary of the founding of what has evolved into the current law firm. In 1888, Samuel C. Dunlap began his law practice in Gainesville. Mr. Dunlap was an active leader in the early development of Gainesville. In 1902 and 1914 respectively, his sons, Samuel C. Dunlap, Jr., and Edgar B. Dunlap joined their Father’s law firm. In 1942, both Pinckney Whelchel, a cousin of Edgar Dunlap’s, and James A. Dunlap, Edgar Dunlap’s son, joined the law firm.

Carey, Jarrard & Walker was formed seventeen years ago when the firms of Jack Carey and Chris Walker combined with Nathan Deal and Tom Jarrard. Nathan Deal practiced with the firm until he was elected to the United States Congress in 1992. Jack Carey practiced with the firm until his retirement on June 30, 2007. The firm lost one of its founding and most beloved partners in March 2007 upon the passing of Tom Jarrard. Including Tom’s name in the new firm is a tribute to him and his wife, Nancy.

The current firm was formed on July 1, 2007, with the merger of the two Gainesville firms of Carey, Jarrard & Walker, LLP, and Whelchel & Dunlap, LLP. The new firm combines its rich tradition and history with innovation and strength to make a formidable member of the legal community in Gainesville and throughout Northeast Georgia.

Congratulations to the firm for 120 years of serving clients with experience, integrity, determination, and depth.
