Employment Law Update

United States Solicitor of Labor, Patricia Smith, recently spoke at an American Bar Association conference and stated that the Department of Labor's proposed rule regarding overtime exemption would likely not be finalized until late 2016.  The proposed rule, as currently written, is expected to extend overtime protection to nearly 5 million white-collar workers.

The DOL originally estimated the rule would be finalized in early 2016; however, some sources suggest that the DOL received over 290,000 comments regarding the proposed rule.
